The mission of the Baltimore Partnership for Vocational Education, Inc. is- To provide vocational and educational services to "at risk" youth of Baltimore City.
To assist each participant to identify a career path in: Auto Body Repair or a related field to include Parts Management, Job Estimation, Auto Painting, or Welding.
To provide the necessary education and training to succeed in that chosen field.
To provide personal and professional support on an individualized basis, to ensure the success of each participant in the program.
This three year program is jointly operated by Bermans Automotive and Northwest Highschool. Students complete all State educational requirements as well as a rigorous vocational regimen.
Students completing the three year course are proficient in the following areas:
- Occupational Safety Skills
- Job Estimating and Estimate Reading
- Preparing Vehicles for Repair & Refinishing
- Repair, Replace & Adjust Outer Body Panels
- Applying Body Fillers
- Welding Operation
- Frame Repair
- Maintaining & Operating Spray Equipment
- Selecting & Applying Appropriate Paints and Finishes
- Finish Defects, Causes and Cures
- Repairing Fiberglass and Plastic Components
Students must be able to demonstrate appropriate communication skills, math skills, basic science and computer skills, and employability skills.
Each semester students are taught to competency new skills. They are tested and reinforced on both new and previously learned skills.
Instructors are provided by the Baltimore City School Systems and Bermans Automotive. Guest lectures are presented each semester.
